The Place of Plenty

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Throughout the Bible, God is described as a Provider. Remember the words of that old hymn: “All I have needed, his hand has provided”? There is no better way of starting a day than by focusing on the wonder of that truth.

Of course, “needs” aren’t the same as wants. I may want a great many things but what do I really need? The verse challenges us to reflect on what’s really important.

But still…don’t skip over this too quickly. EVERY need will be met.

EVERYthing is taken care of.

The verse also forces us to think about the One who gives, HOW he gives and WHY he gives.

Who is he? He is the one with “riches.” He is the one whose bank of supply is limitless! The well will never run dry. He gives and gives….and never stops.

And how does he give? He gives “according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” “For God so loved the world that he gave….” Gave what? Gave his only son Jesus. Jesus is the giving of God. Jesus is the wealth of God made available for us.

And why does he give? He gives out of a loving relationship: because God is “my God.” He is not distant or unknown. He has been made known to us in Christ, and if we are “in Christ” then we are in the place of plenty, the place of assurance, the place where we can be sure to receive!

 It’s all good!
