Unconquerable

“If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.” (Psalm 91:9,10)

The Bible speaks a lot about how God uses broken things. The fallow ground must be broken up before planting. The clouds must break before the rain can fall. The seed must die before the plant can grow. The grain must be crushed to produce bread. The bread must be broken to give nourishment.

And the alabaster jar must be broken to release its perfume. And Peter must weep bitter tears before he can stand tall on Pentecost.

God uses broken things.

If we know that, if we acknowledge the sovereign hand of a loving God, we can be sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. And somehow we arrive at the amazing reality of the verse above. The verb “overtake” means “conquer,” which reminded me of a line from Bryant McGill, that “Being love-filled and beautiful is almost unconquerable.”

And how does God make us unconquerable? Here’s v14:

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness – trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].”
