Government to introduce same-sex ‘marriage’ by 2015
The Coalition has promised to legalise homosexual ‘marriage’ before the next election, reportedly after intervention by the Prime Minister.
Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone said that denying marriage to homosexuals was ‘not only discrimination, but is not fair.’ Formal consultations begin in March. The Christian Institute warned that ‘children need a mother and a father, but homosexual marriage denies this’ and that redefining marriage could open the door to polygamy, as is happening in Canada.
The Evangelical Alliance stated that real marriage ‘will always be solely between a man and a woman’ and that many people will not be able to accept gay marriage.
CARE (Christian Action Research and Education) reminded the government ‘of previous reassurances that the whole point of civil partnerships was that they were instead of marriage’.
